Vacation planning for our pets can cause a lot of anxiety for pet parents. Some of our furry family may totally love going to the pet resort, or to the doggy daycare, but that doesn’t work for everyone. A quick search yields some very interesting options;
A pet friendly vacation
Think of camping, or glamping, hiking, outdoor dining patios, pet-friendly hotels, parks and beaches with your dog by your side. These trips do require some research on your part to make sure you are prepared for all the requirements of hotels, campsites, and parks, etc. Remember you can’t leave any pet in a car or camper unattended. Depending on your activities, consider bringing along a lifejacket and a pet first aid kit. You will usually be required to have your dog on a leash, or perhaps wearing a muzzle in certain situations. See;

A visiting pet sitter
Some enterprising people can be hired to visit your home once or twice daily. They may have something of a milk route around the region if their services are much in demand locally. This can be a great part-time sideline for them, and for some indoor pets it can be much less stressful than a boarding facility. See the list of links below for some contacts.
A live-in pet/house sitter
There are lots of services nowadays for having someone stay at your house and pay attention to your pets while you are gone. You needn’t beg a friend or relative, and it doesn’t have to be very costly.
Some online house sitter services charge an annual fee to the “host”, for having access to thousands of people looking to pet and house-sit as a way to get away themselves. These enterprising travellers save on hotel fees, and some will take care of cats, dogs, birds, fish, even farm animals as well as your house. They just get a chance to see your area in their free time. A lot of people have the Niagara Region on their bucket-list, so we have an advantage in attracting world travellers in that respect. There are also local house and pet sitters that may be more convenient or more regularly available.
Alternatively, if you prefer, some “sitters” will take pets into their own homes.
A pet walker
Not a vacation precisely, but a pet walker can free you up to get away for the day, or reduce the guilt of long days at work. You know how much they will enjoy getting out for a stretch mid-day. Their obvious delight at seeing this regular visitor may actually make you a bit jealous, but try to see it as the best present you could give your best friend(s) every day.
