How do you want to celebrate National Pet Month?
Hug your dog? Buy a catnip toy for you know who? Adopt another best friend?
It may seem like another “made up holiday”, but it’s always good to acknowledge the love on days like Valentine’s day, Family day, Mother’s day, and Father’s day. It shouldn’t require a reminder like National Pet Month written on the calendar to spur us to do some of their favourite things. After all, just seeing them joyful bounces that joy back to us. Everyone wins.
Your pet should have a say in the mode of any celebration. After all, just like their people, pets have preferences when it come to parties vs cozy fireside comfort or beach walks vs car rides.
Here are some ideas from your pet vet in Niagara Falls for a sniff test
Special food treats of appropriate size and type for your pet’s digestion
An extra special walk that includes lots of stops to smell the roses. Or even a pet-friendly vacation. Glamping anyone?
A spa day at the groomer for those who love that extra attention and activity with built-in massage.
Buy or make a sturdy “cat tree” or catio (so cool!)
A clever pet toy to stimulate their active brains and bodies
For the gregarious pooch or tabby a gathering of their favourite people would be a perfect way to celebrate!
Be Mindful
Don’t forget the quieter personal ways to recognize the amazing human/animal bond. Reread a favourite book with a pet theme. Frame a special photo or artwork that commemorates their lives. Write an ode to the most beautiful/smartest/most loving family member you know. That’s the fuzzy friend sitting beside you on the couch, relaxing in a blissful state while you scratch behind their ears. You know the spot.
Join Us in Honouring the Bond
To help us celebrate, please let us know what your own pet would appreciate most. And send us those photos and poems for our Facebook page. If you would like a professional photo, let our Audrey know and she can arrange that, too, for National Pet Month. She has a special price for a photo taken here at Chippawa Animal Hospital this month.
