PUPPIES – they are lucky they are soo darn cute!

We all tend to forget the puppy stage. Whether we block it from our memories or the love they provide the household makes up for all the grief they caused as little teeny puppy monsters! Either way, we seem to elect to put ourselves through the puppy stage time and time again.

Puppies bite

– you…over and over again! And no, it is not teething. That joy doesn’t start until about 16 weeks of age. Puppies just bite! And it is up to us to teach them that this is an unacceptable behaviour. Be prepared for some war wounds along the way.

Puppies chew

– the furniture, electrical cords…well honestly anything that they can fit into their mouths. Puppy proofing your household and your yard is a whole new level. It is our responsibility to keep them safe and I am convinced that my puppy is constantly trying to harm himself. Stress!

Puppies mess

– potty training is more about training ourselves in the beginning. To know that they need to go out after every nap, within 30-60 minutes of meal for a poop and well any time the mood strikes them really! So taking them out, and doing so often, is of upmost importance when trying to potty train.

Puppies need consistency

– in feeding, sleep/wake schedules, training. This is how they learn what is expected of them so they can mature into acceptable adult dogs. They do want to please us, so we need to provide them with the tools that will allow them to succeed. This is a team effort, with everyone in the household needing to be on board.

Puppies are expensive

– crates, playpens, pee pads, toys, food, vet visits, pet insurance, and so much more. Be prepared for the cost of bringing a new little one into your household.

Then again… Awww… Puppies ARE so darn cute

Now I am not saying it is all bad. I mean puppy breath, kisses, sleepy snuggles, adorable playtime, curious exploration and so much more.

Maybe it is just the lack of sleep talking right now. It will get better. It always does! And who am I kidding, I would do it again and again 😊
